EA Sports Complex Launched in PS Home

"The Complex - much like the PlayStation Home platform - will evolve over time. As new titles are announced, content within the space and additional game-specific achievement rewards will be added."

PSP Firmware v5.50 Coming Soon

"Hi everyone, the next system software update (v5.50) for PSP (PlayStation Portable) will be available soon, and I wanted to provide you all with a preview of some of the key features."

"The firmware update will introduce an Information Board on the PSP system’s XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface. Those of you who have a PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) may be familiar with this feature, which displays news and updates from the world of PlayStation in a scrolling ticker in the upper right-hand corner of your TV screen. Now you’ll be able to read up-to-date information about upcoming games, new content available on PlayStation Store, and other news right on your PSP whenever you’re at a wireless Internet hotspot."

"In addition, we’ll be adding a few more enhancements with the 5.50 update:

Memory Stick improvements – You’ll be able to create and access sub-folders on your Memory Stick PRO Duo for music, videos and photos. Separately, the available space required to download a file from PlayStation Store to your Memory Stick has been reduced significantly.
Internet search for games directly from the XMB – You’ll be able to easily search the Internet for information about your PSP games. Select the icon for the game, hit the Triangle button, and then select [Internet Search] from the options menu to get search results based on the game title. This feature was added to PS3 with the recent 2.70 update.
Trend Micro trial – PSP’s Internet browser is a great tool for checking out your favorite Web sites on the go, and we’re teaming up with the Internet security experts at Trend Micro to make the Web browsing experience safer and more secure. PS3 Firmware 2.70 Released

Firmware version 2.70 for the Playstation 3 has been released. It includes the following changes:

Friends list on the XMB (XrossMediaBar)

* Sort your friends via their online status
* Attach larger files to the messages you send to your friends (file size will increase from 1MB to 3MB)

Video delivery service on PlayStation Store

* Video files you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store can be backed up to an external storage device and then restored to PS3’s internal hard drive for playback – so you can clear up space on your hard drive and then restore the video anytime in the future
* Videos you’ve purchased for PSP (PlayStation Portable) system can now be transferred to PS3 for playback

Other

* The ability to search the net about a particular game direct from the game section of the XMB using the triangle menu
* The ability to cut and paste text
* A Dynamic Normalizer to prevent sudden increases in volume between music tracks

Warhawk Command Center Coming to PS Home Today

"A couple days ago I visited with Incognito studio director Dylan Jobe (you know him well) about the Warhawk space that launches today in PlayStation Home. Dylan was nice enough to walk us through the Warhawk Command Center, and specifically through the Sand Table where you can lay out strategies for all Warhawk maps. It’s all really slick, and Dylan goes into some great detail about how it all works."

"Also, starting today you can purchase Warhawk for $19.99 on the PlayStation Store (that’s $10 off!) for two weeks, ending on March 11. Individual Warhawk Booster packs are dropping down to $4.99, and the Booster Combo (all three individual Booster packs) drops to $9.99. PS3 Firmware Update v2.60 Released

Playstation 3 Firmware 2.60 has been released. Here's what's new:

"The PS3 firmware update (v2.60) is designed primarily to enhance the system’s media capabilities. The key feature is a new Photo Gallery application, which delivers a suite of tools for sorting through and displaying your digital photo collection. Digital pictures can be organized in groups according to various criteria, including the camera used to take the photos, the event date and time, colors in the photos, as well as the number, ages, or facial expressions of the people pictured. You can also create slideshows set to music and build photo playlists with an easy-to-use interface. The Photo Gallery application will need to be installed separately from the XMB after you update your PS3’s firmware. To install the Photo Gallery application, go to the Photo section on the XMB, select Photo Gallery and press the X button."

The 2.60 update also includes:

Guest access to PlayStation Store – This enables non-PlayStation Network members to browse through the storefront to check out the latest games, demos, videos, etc.
DivX 3.11 support – Videos in this format can now be played on PS3.

Sony just announced that the PS Home Open Beta will be released tomorrow, December 11th. Here is the article from the Official Playstation Blog:

Oblivion Glitch: Guards Attacking Guards

This is a glitch I found in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion for PS3. Here is what happens:

I'm in the Imperial prison sewers on the "Scheduled for Execution" quest for the Dark Brotherhood. I summoned an "Ancestral Guardian" and attacked it. Immediately, the guards started to attack it. I got out of the way and they started attacking one another until only one guy was left! After the fight is over, the remaining guard just stood there, apparently no longer interested in killing me! Unfortunately, I lost my bonus reward because of this.

Nintendo Announces WiiSpeak Microphone

Along with the announcement of Animal Crossing for the Wii, Nintendo announced a new microphone peripheral called WiiSpeak at today's E3 press conference. This microphone will allow multiple players to talk at once to anybody else around the world. WiiSpeak will be available at the same time as Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii which will be released on November 16th. The microphone will retail for $29.99.

Playstation Store to get TV/Movie Downloads

Today at the Sony E3 Press Conference, Sony announced that the Playstation Store is going to get TV and Movie downloads/rentals. Content will be available in SD and HD. You'll also be able to transfer the content from your PS3 or PC to your PSP. Fox, MGM, Lions Gate, Warner, Disney, Paramount, Turner, and Funimation are all on board. Prices will be $1.99 for a single TV episode, $2.99 to $5.99 for rentals, and movie purchases will be $9.99 to $14.99. All downloads will be able to start playing almost instantly after you click download. The service should be available tonight.

The update includes the following:

* Support for PLAYSTATION®Store Movies and TV video service.

* New effects have been added to the visual player under Music icon (Music).

The Movies and TV service part is not listed in the update features list on the PSP Network Update but it's listed on the this Playstation support page. It isn't very clear what the Movie and TV service update means but hopefully we'll soon see movie and TV show downloads in the Playstation Store. Maybe Sony has plans to reveal at tomorrow's press conference.

A new update has been released for the Nintendo Wii. Here are the changes:

“With this update you now move a Mii from the Mii Plaza to the Mii Parade in the Mii Channel. To do this, simply pick up the Mii with the A and B buttons and then release it over the Mii Parade icon in the upper-right corner of the screen.“

Goozex: Online Video Game Trading

Goozex is an online video game trading community that allows you to trade in your games for points which you can use to purchase other games on their site. You can trade Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3, PC, DS, PSP, GBA, Playstation 2, Xbox, Ps1, Gamecube, Dreamcast, and Mac games. I signed up about a month ago and I really like it. To trade in a game, you first list the game on the Goozex site and when they find somebody that wants the game you have listed, they'll notify you. Once you send out the game, your account will be credited the point value for the game. You will have to pay for shipping the game but you can ship most games for about $1.50 by USPS. For every game you purchase on the site you need 1 trading credit, which are $1 each, and the required number of points (Which you can get by sending a game to somebody or by buying points). New members get 100 points and 1 trade credit when they sign up, that's a free game! There are a lot of games you can get with 100 points. This tutorial will show you how to put flash games on your PSP. You do not need custom firmware to do this. I recommend you use Firefox to perform the following steps.

Here are the steps:

Step 1.
Search for a flash game and have it running on the page.

Step 2.
Go to "File" > "Save Page As" and save it to the desktop.

Step 3.
Make a new folder in the root of your memory stick duo and name it "FLASH".

Step 4.
Drag the correct .swf file from the web page folder to the "FLASH" folder.

Step 5.
Rename the .swf file to whatever you want. I recommend you keep it short and simple.

Step 6.
Put the memory stick duo back in the PSP

Step 7.
Open the web browser on your PSP and type this address:

file:/flash/breakout.swf

You can replace "breakout" with the name of the .swf file you want to open. When the game opens you can save it in your bookmarks.

What is Skype?

A lot of people have been commenting on my "Skype on PSP" video asking questions like: "What is Skype?", "Is is free?", "Do I need a microphone?", "How can people call me?", "How do I get Skype on my PSP?", "Why can't I get Skype on my PSP?". Well, this post aims to answer all those questions.

What is Skype?
Skype allows users to make telephone calls over the Internet to other Skype users free of charge and to landlines and cell phones for a fee.

Is it free?
Yes and no. Calling other Skype users on their computers, PSPs, and other Skype enabled devices is absolutely free. On the other hand, calling landlines and cell phones costs a small amount of moola. Click here to see the prices.

Do I need a microphone?
Yes, you need the PSP headset and remote. The remote came with the original PSP but not the Slim. You can buy the PSP Headset Kit for Skype at Gamestop or Amazon, which includes both the headset and remote.

How can people call me?
There are two different ways people can call you. The first way is calling you from Skype on their computer, PSP, or other Skype device. Secondly, people can call your SkypeIn number from any phone, which is basically the same as a regular phone number, but this feature will cost extra. Click here to see how much the SkypeIn number costs.

How do I get Skype on my PSP?
Skype is included in the latest PSP Slim/2000 firmware update. If you have WiFi then you can update by going to the settings on your PSP and clicking "Network Update". If you don't have WiFi then you can update by going here and following the instrcutions at the bottom of the page (This requires either the PSP USB cable or a Memory Stick Duo reader).

Why can't I get Skype on my PSP?
If you can't get it on your PSP then you most probably don't have a Slim/2000 series PSP. It will not work with the old PSP 1000 series PSPs. You probably think it's because Sony doesn't care about the people that bought the original PSP. Well, that's not the case. The reason it doesn't work is that the original PSP doesn't have enough RAM to run Skype.

Guitar Hero for DS

Guitar Hero: On Tour will be released this summer for the DS. It will include a guitar grip that plugs into the GBA slot. It seems that either the grip will come in two different versions or it will be for DS Lite only. The game will be played with the DS sideways and it will include a guitar pick to be used on the touchscreen. The gameplay will be pretty much the same as the console versions. A new firmware update was released today. Nothing major, it just expands support for Playstation network titles. Also, the Internet Radio has 20 new radio players and is now organized by more specific genres. To download one of the new radio players, on your PSP go to Network > Internet Radio > About Internet Radio > Adding an Internet radio player.

Hulu went public today along with tons more content and a whole new look. Hulu has added a movie section with about 80 movies including All Dogs Go To Heaven 1&2, Ice Age, Three Amigos!, and Planet of the Apes. They added a few new feature including sorting shows by genre and rating helpfulness of reviews. Overall Hulu has undergone a total transformation overnight. What are you waiting for?! That's right. Hulu.com will be making it's public debut tomorrow (March 12th), so no more begging for invites. Hulu also announced that it will be adding more content including full length movies. Some of the new additions will include:

Gamespot Video Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Duke it out with your favorite Nintendo characters in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii. Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Series makes a special appearance in this title for the Wii game system. The new Smash Bros. will include a number of new playable characters such as Meta Knight from the Kirby games, Pit from Kid Icarus, Zero Suit Samus (i.e. Samus without her armour) from Metroid: Zero Mission, Wario and, most unexpectedly, Solid Snake from Metal Gear and Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega's loveable blue blur! The Nintendogs also make an appearance, although only as an item for obscuring the screen, and each character now seems to have some gigantic new special attacks that take up the whole screen.. Not only will the game have an online mode but it is the only major Nintendo title to use the “shell” controller by default rather than the Wii remote.
